4. RB Derrius Guice

Last year, Guice likely would have been the top candidate on this list. Unfortunately, an ACL injury derailed the promising rookie’s season before it began. But with a full offseason of recovery, he could have a chance to be a big part of the team’s offense.

Guice was a solid runner at LSU, and some thought that he could emerge as one of the better backs in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, he had an unexpected draft day slide and the Redskins were able to trade down while still grabbing him to be their future back. He was the seventh running back off the board.

Guice has a unique combination of balance, power, and explosiveness that should lend itself to the NFL. He didn’t get a chance to showcase much as a rookie, but in his brief preseason action, he was solid when on the field. And if he gets a chance to play a good amount in 2019, he should find a way to be successful.

The reason that Guice comes in on the bottom rung of this list is that he still could be stuck in a back-by-committee approach throughout the season. The Redskins re-signed Adrian Peterson, still have Chris Thompson, drafted Bryce Love, and Samaje Perine has impressed Jay Gruden this offseason. So, Guice will have competition for carries, and that will make it difficult for him to emerge as the workhorse back.

That said, it would be surprising if Guice isn’t being treated as the backfield leader at least by the end of the season. He could have a chance to make some plays as a result and could emerge as a flashy three-down back for Washington.
