Redskins: 5 most underappreciated players on the roster
2. CB Fabian Moreau
In recent years, the Redskins have added exciting, late-round options to their cornerback room. In 2018, it was Greg Stroman. It 2019, it’s Jimmy Moreland.
The presence of these two players has led some to question whether or not Fabian Moreau would hold onto the top slot-corner role. However, it seems that Moreau has a stranglehold on that position at the very least.
Gruden recently said that he was “really, really, really, impressed” with Moreau’s progress in camp. Moreau is entering his third year in the NFL and just his second in a prominent role with the Redskins. The former 2017 third-round pick had first-round potential, but he slipped due to a torn pectoral he suffered at his Pro Day.

Last season, Moreau was very solid in his role as the slot corner and later served as the No. 2 guy when Quinton Dunbar suffered a leg injury. He wasn’t perfect by any means, but the first-year starter had 58 tackles and one interception while showcasing the upside to be a good starter in the NFL. With another year of development under his belt, he could be a key part of the team’s secondary. And Gruden’s words seem to back that up.
It’s possible that Stroman or Moreland could eventually become the slot man for the Redskins. But, that isn’t going to come at the expense of Moreau. If anything, they would move into that role if Dunbar or Josh Norman were to get hurt or benched.
Moreau is facing a year in which he could really make the leap, especially if he plays in 81 percent of the team’s defensive snaps as he did last year. The 25-year-old is an ascending player and deserves a bit more love ahead of the 2019 season that he has been getting.
