Ian’s Final 2019 NFL Mock Draft: Fortune favors the bold?
By Ian Cummings
Picks 17-24
17. New York Giants: WR Hakeem Butler, Iowa State. A bit rich for my taste. Dave Gettleman doesn’t often like first-round receivers, but when he does, he likes them tall. At 6-foot-6, Hakeem Butler is tall. With a newfound need for a No. 1 receiver, Gettleman will feel compelled to give Daniel Jones a new weapon.
18. Minnesota Vikings: OL Jonah Williams, Alabama. Another “don’t mind if I do” pick, this time for Rick Spielman and the Vikings. Jonah Williams shouldn’t fall, but he’s not the most athletic lineman, and thus, he could. Minnesota, of course, can afford to pass up Williams’ dominant technical proficiency. They have an expensive quarterback to help out.
19. Tennessee Titans: DL Rashan Gary, Michigan. Someone’s bound to fall in love with Rashan Gary’s athletic potential. He could go in the top ten, or fall closer to thirty. Why not split the difference, and have him go to Mike Vrabel’s Titans?
Washington Commanders
20. Pittsburgh Steelers: CB Rock Ya-Sin, Temple. Interesting that the Steelers always love to make surprise defensive back picks in Round 1, and they always have a need at defensive back, don’t you think?
21. Seattle Seahawks: S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Florida. The Seahawks like defensive backs like Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. He’s tough, he’s fast, he’s vocal, he’s versatile. If anyone in this class could resurrect the Legion of Boom, it’s him.
22. Baltimore Ravens: OL Garrett Bradbury, North Carolina State. The Ravens need some help on the interior line, and Garrett Bradbury has a ton of athletic potential. With Marshall Yanda re-signed, but aging, getting him some interior help, and a high-upside young player to mentor, makes a lot of sense.
23. Houston Texans: CB Greedy Williams, LSU. Everyone has the Texans picking an offensive lineman. Let’s shake things up, guys. They have other needs that want your attention, like cornerback. Greedy Williams has the upside to win them over.
24. Oakland Raiders: RB Josh Jacobs, Alabama. Agreeing with Jacob again. I think the Raiders like Josh Jacobs. They also have a need for a solid weapon out of the backfield, and Jacobs projects well as the top running back in the class.
