Round 2, Pick 14

Will Pick: EDGE Chase Winovich, Michigan

Winovich just seems like a Redskins-type pick in the second round. Recently, the team has targeted hard-working and athletic edges with solid production in that frame. Winovich fits the bill, as he has an insane motor and looked great at the combine. He has the potential to be a solid edge rusher at the next level and playing him in rotation with Ryan Anderson could pay off big time for the team.

Should Pick: WR Deebo Samuel, South Carolina

More from Commanders Draft News

Samuel is one of my favorite receivers in this class. He has the speed, footwork, and route-running ability to be an impactful player at the next level. Last year, Samuel totaled 11 touchdowns despite his 5-11 frame, and his ability to gain separation is fantastic. Washington should definitely grab him if he’s on the board in the second round, but if they don’t address the edge, they could pass on him. It’s also possible that Samuel could come off the board before this, but the ‘Skins should still keep a very close eye on him.

Dark Horse: S Darnell Savage, Maryland

Savage has been steadily rising in the lead-up to the 2019 NFL Draft. If the Redskins opt for a safety on Day 2, he will certainly garner consideration in the second round. He has a great skill set and was very good in coverage last season for the Terrapins, but his instincts are even better. He would pair well with Landon Collins, so he can’t be discounted here.
