Montae Nicholson could end up being the starter next to Landon Collins this year, but the team needs more depth behind him. They could grab a safety on Day 2, but given that they have added fourth-round picks in each of the past two drafts, they may be content to let those players, Nicholson and Troy Apke, battle for the starting job.

Still, the team could use some depth at safety. Deshazor Everett is a solid backup, but adding more young upside late in the draft would be a smart move. Delvon Randall offers just that.

Randall is an instinctive safety who has logged four interceptions in each of the past three seasons. For Temple, Randall consistently made correct reads in coverage and while he isn’t much of an athlete, he simply has the instincts to make plays.

Randall is much better in coverage than he is against the run, but he has the technique and size needed to be effective in that area. Sharpening his instincts there would go a long way to helping him, but as a backup safety, he would have the time to do that. And learning from Everett could afford him an opportunity to develop well at the next level.

It’s possible that the ‘Skins could address safety earlier or perhaps even not at all. If they try to move Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to the position, they may instead opt to grab a corner late in the draft or continue to invest on the offensive side of the ball.
