It was between Boston College safety Will Harris and Nebraska wide receiver Stanley Morgan Jr. at this pick. While part of me wanted to add Morgan’s high floor and route running prowess to the offensive roster, I felt that Harris was the slightly better player at that point, and defense hadn’t been addressed yet.

So Will Harris is the Redskins’ second third-round pick in this scenario, and he brings, at the very least, depth to a position facing some uncertainty. With Montae Nicholson in uncharted waters with his assault record, and with Troy Apke needing development, Harris is a safety with the necessary size, speed, and smarts to start right away alongside Landon Collins, if needed.

There are a number of needs the Redskins could effectively address in Round 2. In this mock, the Redskins trade their second-round pick for Josh Rosen, and you get a sense for how that move impacts their draft. Rosen is a very good quarterback. But the second round is a very good value area for receivers this year, and without that pick, the Redskins might have a harder time adding immediate playmakers for Rosen. A sacrifice has to be made, if Rosen is to come to D.C.
