Cardinals. Tre Boston. 1. player. 32. . Safety

It’s possible that the Redskins may still be in on Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. If so, he would be a great signing here, too. At the same time, it’s entirely possible that Clinton-Dix could price himself out of Washington’s range, so they may have to let him walk.

If Clinton-Dix does depart, Tre Boston would be a good consolation prize. Boston is very good in coverage and has been a playmaking ballhawk for the better part of the last three years. Though Boston is going to be on his fourth team in as many seasons, he still has the talent needed to be a solid starter at the NFL level.

Boston’s coverage skills make him an ideal player to pair with Landon Collins. Boston is a player with great coverage skills who is a capable, but not great, tackler. Collins is an elite tackler with great instincts and downhill playmaking ability. His coverage ability, however, isn’t his strong suit. The Redskins could play the duo together and devise a system that allows each to play more to their strengths.

Boston’s relative cost shouldn’t be too high, as he has remained on the market for the past couple of years and has had to sign one-year pacts each time out. In a better safety market, perhaps he could get a solid deal, but some other veterans may go off the board before him. Still, Boston doesn’t turn 27 until June, so he should continue to play on a high level for years to come.

If the Redskins want to get a free agent that could outplay his salary, Boston is a fantastic option. He may not go until the second wave of free agency, but the ‘Skins should have an interest in him.
