The market for running backs will start to heat up with Le’Veon Bell signing with the Jets. He is the domino that is controlling everything. Now that bell Bell has made his decision, Mark Ingram will be able to make his (though Ingram has been increasingly tied to the Ravens as time goes on). Once that happens, we’ll know a bit more about Adrian Peterson‘s landing spot.

Peterson may be holding out hope that a team that loses out on the Bell sweepstakes could investigate signing him as a potential starter for 2019. Teams like the Ravens, Eagles, and Raiders could all use a lead back. And if Peterson wants that chance, it’s possible that he could get it.

However, he will have to wait to see what happens. If Ingram and Tevin Coleman fill those holes, Peterson’s options will be limited. Additionally, it’s unclear what level of interest (if any) those teams might have in adding him.

What we do know is this. The Redskins are reportedly still talking to AP, according to ESPN’s John Keim. They would like to bring him back as a top backup and mentor for Derrius Guice.

That said, the team can’t afford to overpay him, so they have to be firm with their price. It wouldn’t be the end of the world for Peterson to sign elsewhere, as backup running backs are easily replaceable. That’s not to say that they should lowball him, but staying in touch while he navigates the market looking for a starting job is certainly a smart move.

I wouldn’t expect a quick resolution to any potential deal with Peterson. After all, he had to wait until August to sign anywhere last year. That said, the Redskins should still be keeping a close eye on him and pursuing him for a potential deal if everything works out.
