It seems that the Jaguars are going to address their quarterback problems in free agency. They are rumored to be the leaders to sign Nick Foles. This makes sense, as the Jaguars’ new offensive coordinator, John DeFilippo, worked with Foles during their Super Bowl run with the Philadelphia Eagles.

With that said, the Jaguars can afford to pick the best player available here. They have relatively few needs for a team picking in the top-10 and they are just a year removed from being a part of the AFC Championship game. Of the players on the board, a few defensive options make sense, but none have more upside than Rashan Gary.

Gary was the former No. 1 overall recruit when he went to Michigan a few years ago. He wasn’t ever extremely productive in college, notching just 9.5 sacks over the course of three years, but he did have 23 tackles for loss in that span. Gary is very athletic for his size (6-4, 270) and he should develop into a great all-around player at the NFL level.

Gary could play on the edge and inside on Jacksonville’s front. Considering their “Sacksonville” moniker, adding another pass rusher would seemingly be a sensible move. This is especially true since they are considering cutting former big-time free agent acquisition, Malik Jackson. Gary could take over his role as a starter on the line, and he could play edge in running situations and kick inside as a pass rusher in other packages.

For Jacksonville, Gary would be a versatile addition and should help improve their defense. While the team could draft a receiving weapon like D.K. Metcalf or T.J. Hockenson to give Foles some extra weapons, adding a top defender here makes more sense. They can grab a receiving threat with their first pick in the second round.
