87. . Offensive Tackle. Florida. Jawaan Taylor. 16. player

The Panthers are desperate for help on the offensive line. They lost their best player, guard Andrew Norwell, to free agency last season. This year, they may have similar misfortune.

Right tackle Daryl Williams, one of the team’s best blockers, is set to be a free agent, and another team may end up paying more than the Panthers can for his services. Meanwhile, Ryan Kalil is a free agent, too, and has discussed retirement. That would leave Trai Turner, Greg Van Roten, and Matt Kalil as the only starters remaining from 2018. And the younger Kalil has been a major issue, as he is overpaid and has struggled to block at left tackle.

With all that said, the Panthers need to add some offensive line talent. They are lucky to have their choice of three quality players with this pick in Jawaan Taylor, Jonah Williams, and Cody Ford. That said, Taylor has the most upside of the group.

Taylor really improved this past year at Florida and demonstrated quick feet and good strength on tape. At the combine, he performed relatively well, especially considering that he was dealing with a hamstring injury during the drills and wasn’t 100 percent. Still, he moved well and reaffirmed that his footwork is some of the best in the class at the tackle position.

Taylor figures to be a solid starter at the NFL level and should have a good chance to succeed thanks to his 6-5 frame and athletic ability. He could play left tackle with Kalil kicking inside to guard or moving to the right side. Conversely, Taylor could play right tackle. Either way, he would give Carolina more talent on the line, so that would be a win for Marty Hurney come draft day.
