1. player. 31. . Safety. Giants. Landon Collins

Landon Collins is the most obvious and, potentially, most perfect fit for the Redskins in free agency. He is a young, well-rounded safety who has totaled 428 tackles in four years since coming into the league. He would solve at least one of the problems that the ‘Skins have at the safety position.

Over the past four years, Collins has proven to be one of the leagues better tacklers and an instinctive safety. He can have coverage issues at times, but for the most part, Collins has been rock solid. In 2016, he posted 125 tackles, five interceptions, and 13 pass breakups while helping to lead a then-recharged Giants defense and was a first-team All-Pro. He was even in the running for defensive player of the year. He was that good.

At just 25 years old, Collins has a lengthy NFL career in front of him. He has played in 59 of a possible 64 regular season games during his career, so he is durable. He has the skills needed to be an impact player in the secondary and lock down a starting job for at least five years.

And, oh yeah, before the 2015 NFL Draft, ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported that Collins wanted to play for none other than the Washington Redskins. This could be his chance to do just that.

Collins coming to Washington is far from a foregone conclusion. There are several teams out there with ample cap space, namely the Colts and 49ers, that could easily set the market for Collins if either squad really wants him. Thus, some work will have to be done to match those efforts on the Redskins side. But no matter what, Collins should be their top target in 2019 free agency.
