Cody Ford is a very good offensive lineman. He has solid size at 6-3, 329 pounds and was a great blocker for Oklahoma. However, he may end up being available with the 15th pick. And the reason for that is simple.

At the NFL Combine, Ford had a fine showing. However, he didn’t look particularly athletic and appeared to lack the top-level movement skills needed to be a tackle. Many teams were already considering moving him to guard, and if he’s viewed as solely a guard, that could cause him to fall down boards a bit.

Ford will still certainly be a top-20 pick. He had a really good year at Oklahoma, and there are plenty of teams that could use help on the offensive line. That said, if he is limited to just playing guard, he could slip behind some of the other potential top tackles in this class. Jawaan Taylor, Jonah Williams, and even Andre Dillard could end up leapfrogging Ford, especially if teams like the Bills and Bengals elect to draft tackle prospects early.

Ford would be a plug-and-play starter for the Redskins at left guard. So, landing him would be a great get. It’s looking well within the realm of possibility that he could be on the board. And if he is, the ‘Skins will have to think long and hard about adding him to strengthen their offensive line.
