Brian Burns had a very good combine. There were concerns about the Florida State product’s weight coming into the event, but he weighed in at 249 pounds. That means that he’s certainly strong enough to be a three-down player on the edge in the NFL so that certainly helped his stock.

Additionally, Burns tested well in the 40 and on-field drills, blazing a 4.53-second 40-yard dash and showing good movements skills in the drills. He was a late first-round option coming into the combine but now, he could climb into the top-15 picks.

That said, it’s hard to imagine many scenarios where Burns will be off the board before the Redskins pick. There are still five defensive linemen/edge players that are likely to go above him, as Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams, Josh Allen, Rashan Gary, and Ed Oliver seem like top-15 shoo-ins. So, that alone will likely push Burns out of the top-10, as it’s possible that those defensive players will go off the board in addition to three or four quarterbacks.

Meanwhile, Montez Sweat is also ahead of Burns on a lot of big boards and outperformed Burns at the combine. And while Clelin Ferrell doesn’t profile as the same type of athlete as Burns, he could be a perfect fit with the Dolphins and they may select him with the 13th pick. In short, there are potential landing spots for Burns, but other talent at the edge rusher position could end up pushing him down the board.

The Redskins won’t complain if Burns is available. He would be a solid option across from Ryan Kerrigan and would certainly add speed to their defense. Definitely keep an eye on Burns, especially with the decline of another potential edge rush option at 15 in Jachai Polite.
