There are two positions of need that we have yet to address in this mock draft. One is quarterback and the other is the edge.

In the fifth round, we had our sights set on taking a quarterback. However, the value wasn’t there. So, we elected to address the edge position and try to land a potential-packed product. Shareef Miller fits the bill.

Miller (6-5) is a long, athletic player with a pretty good first step. He is still raw, but at time, he shows flashes of his potential, which is as a quality starter at the NFL level. He’ll need to show more consistency in order to earn that role, but he does have the upside.

However, Miller does come with a myriad of other concerns. First of all, he isn’t very strong at the point of attack. He lacks the power needed to win against offensive tackles, and that will make him a one-trick pony. He needs to improve his strength and his hands in order to find multiple ways to win. Otherwise, he’ll merely be a rotational player.

Miller could show off his athletic upside at the Combine, so the Redskins will consider him. And truthfully, he was the best of the rush linebacker on the board. He won’t be a quality replacement for Preston Smith, if he leaves in free agency, but he should provide the team with quality depth and could emerge as a starter in year two.
