Redskins 7-round mock with the team selecting an offensive lineman first
With their late seventh-round pick, the Redskins grab a depth player that could have an impact on special teams. That would be Stanford’s Bobby Okereke.
Okereke was a solid all-around player for the Cardinal over his four seasons there. He had a good year in 2018, logging 94 tackles and 3.5 sacks as one of the team’s starting linebackers. Okereke has the potential to develop into a backup and special teams contributor in the NFL, so getting him here makes sense.
The Redskins may need to add extra depth at linebacker anyway. While Shaun Dion Hamilton and Josh Harvey-Clemons are good depth players, the futures of both Zach Brown and Mason Foster are unclear. If one or both are cut, the team will need some depth. Okereke should be special teams contributor and two-down run stopper. He would be an adequate replacement for Foster, provided that he would only be a backup.
Okereke would finish off a solid haul for the Redskins. While the edge and quarterback positions would still be suspect, the team would be set up for success in many other of the areas of weakness that they had coming into the 2019 NFL Draft.
