Redskins: Riggo’s Rag Podcast – NFL Draft prospect talk, pre-Combine
By Ian Cummings
We are officially entrenched in draft season. It’s an especially important season for the Washington Redskins.
No matter what franchise path the Washington Redskins end up taking, the 2019 NFL Draft is a turning point on that journey. If Bruce Allen sees through with his vision to win now, he’ll need to add the most value, and the most talent, possible on draft day. And if the team opts to instead use 2019 as a developmental year, they’ll need to continue construction of a solid young core through the 2019 NFL Draft.
No matter what you think about the Redskins and where they’re headed, the 2019 NFL Draft is a crucial checkpoint. With a bevy of needs, the Redskins need to do their homework, and in a draft class that, for the most part, aligns with their needs well, they can’t leave the stage at Nashville without changing the tune.
That said, the term “doing homework” almost makes it sound easy. But studying for the NFL Draft is a tedious process, one that requires copious film watching, reference to analytics, prospect interviews, and lots of moving around. Almost more important, however, is the aspect of free thought, discussion, collaboration, and even a little bit of inevitable disagreement. Everyone sees different things when scouting, and every organization consists of dozens of decision makers. Which voices will rise to the top? And which choices will reign over the rest?
With the NFL Combine fast approaching (It starts tomorrow, in fact), we decided to give you a snippet of that dynamic, while also giving you some in-depth knowledge of various high-profile prospects and sleepers in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Riggo’s Rag Podcast is back a little bit early, as Jacob Camenker and I talk about our favorite prospects in detail.
Some of the prospects discussed have been written about in even greater detail on this site. Jacob talks about Daniel Jones, whom he scouted, and I vocalize my thoughts on Drew Lock. We also go over the Brian Burns vs. Jachai Polite vs. Montez Sweat debate, delve into the deep receiving class, and more! To listen, you can click the play button below.
The draft is an event that breeds the motivation to learn and study, but it also breeds deception. If you don’t like a take out there, or don’t see what we see about a certain prospect, feel free to voice your thoughts in the comments section below! After all, everyone sees something different. It’ll only be in a year or two that we truly understand what kind of value the 2019 NFL Draft provided.
