One of the most pertinent questions that the Redskins have to answer this offseason comes at receiver. Jamison Crowder is set to hit free agency and the team is going to have to make a decision about whether or not they want to keep him. He could be priced higher than they like, so they may need a slot replacement.

Andy Isabella isn’t a typical slot receiver. He has played inside and outside at UMass and has posted monster numbers during his college career. In each of his last two seasons, Isabella had over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns working with a couple of different quarterbacks. He was a dynamic weapon in every contest and his skill set should translate to the NFL.

Isabella has top-notch speed — he was a track star in high school — great route running ability, and fairly solid hands. He could end up being a deep threat or a volume receiver. He’ll have the ability to return kicks and could be a jack-of-all-trades in the NFL.

At the Combine, Isabella will have a chance to show off his blazing speed in the 40-yard dash. The other drill to watch will be the gauntlet, as he’ll have a chance to show off his catching ability and quickness.

The biggest areas of concern for Isabella will be his measurements. He’s listed in the 5-9 or 5-10 range,  so that may limit him to being a slot receiver in the NFL. Still, Isabella could end up being a terrific playmaker at that spot, so he should garner consideration as early as Round 2.

Elsewhere, Isabella has solid hands, but he tends to let the ball get into his body too often. If that’s an issue in the gauntlet, that could cause his stock to drop.

For the Redskins, Isabella would be a great option early in Round 3 if he makes it that far. The team could consider him as a potential replacement for Crowder. But if Isabella’s speed and excellent route running ability is on display at the Combine, his stock could rise. The Redskins should keep a close eye on him to see if he truly warrants a Day 2 pick.
