No. 2 – Redskins must add some talent on this roster for when they get a quarterback

As mentioned earlier, Alex Smith is likely not playing in 2019. His career may very well be over as well. We do not know. What is known is at the moment, the Redskins just don’t have enough talent on the roster for this team to be a serious Super Bowl contender, especially without a healthy franchise quarterback under center. Kyle Smith and company have done an excellent job in the past couple of drafts adding talent and depth to this team. They must have another big weekend when the draft comes this year.

When Smith went down, any realistic chance the Redskins had of winning a Super Bowl went down with him. If, and that is a big if, they do not take a quarterback at No. 15, they must add a couple of playmakers to the roster that they can develop for when the Redskins have their next franchise quarterback.

One recent example of a team finding impact players in the draft to help their quarterback was the Indianapolis Colts. They drafted a guard (Quenton Nelson) and a middle linebacker (Darius Leonard), two positions that have been devalued by the league recently. Offensive lineman Braden Smith was their next pick and all three were key contributors on their playoff team. One good draft can change a team’s misfortunes quickly. Washington should take note.

Recently, the Redskins were given the second worst Super Bowl odds in 2019, per Chris Roling of Redskins Wire. They are not a ‘quarterback away’ or ‘close’ as some say (Looking at you Bruce Allen). Washington may very well be picking in the top ten, maybe even top five, next year in a more talented and deep quarterback class. The point is that Washington does not have to feel like they must draft at quarterback at No. 15 this year. However, the Redskins absolutely must come away with impact players, as both sides of the ball struggled in 2018 at times.
