Defensive Line: Dominique Easley, Los Angeles Rams

The ‘Skins don’t really need to add anyone on the defensive line in free agency because of the young talent they have built up at the position. Still, they could investigate a buy-low opportunity on a player, so the thought of adding someone can’t be discounted.

Still, if the Redskins target a player on the interior line, Dominique Easley wouldn’t make sense. The former first-round pick out of Florida certainly has upside, but there are a couple of reasons he wouldn’t work in Washington.

First, Easley is best served as a 4-3 defensive tackle. His fit in the 3-4 is more suspect. Now, I know that the Redskins don’t operate in the 3-4 much, but even if it is just in their base packages, that eliminates a set of plays for Easley to be easily involved in.

Second, Easley has struggled to stay healthy during his football career. In the past two seasons, he has only appeared in three games because of chronic knee injuries that have plagued him since he was at Florida. In fact, he has torn his ACL four times in his career and suffered an injury to the same knee in 2018. So, that history isn’t going anywhere.

The Redskins don’t need another injury-prone player on their roster. They have already lost enough players to maladies over the last two years and adding Easley — a mediocre scheme fit with injury issues — would do nothing to fix that issue.

If Washington wants a young player with upside to develop on the defensive line, Robert Nkemdiche would make sense. The Cardinals may cut him and if they do, it would make sense for the ‘Skins to target him.
