Center: Wesley Johnson, Miami Dolphins

Realistically, there aren’t a lot of centers on the open market that the Redskins would consider signing.

Chase Roullier was solid at center last season for the Redskins. He’ll certainly be in line to start for another year. Even though the team needs to invest in a better backup for him than Tony Bergstrom, this seems like a position that they will be better served to address in the draft.

Aside from a few potentially high-priced options and Ryan Kalil (who seems likely to retire), most of the options available on the market aren’t great. B.J. Finney, Ryan Groy, and Spencer Pulley all have some upside, but they appear to have ceilings as backups. Adding any of them cheap could be seen as a shrewd move to improve depth, but none really move the needle in any way, shape, or form.

If the team was to avoid one player, I’d have to recommend Wesley Johnson as that guy. Johnson has racked up 24 career starts, but he’s merely a low-grade backup. Adding him wouldn’t do a lot to change things at the backup position so if they had to avoid one, I would pick him. Still, the center market is top-heavy, so it’s not one I think the ‘Skins will want to invest in (unless they decide to move Roullier to guard).
