Offensive Tackle: Chris Clark, Carolina Panthers

The only real reason the Redskins would be looking for a veteran tackle in free agency is if Ty Nsekhe leaves. The team should do what they can to bring back their top swing tackle, as he’s one of the best backups in the league.

However, Nsekhe may end up signing elsewhere if he gets more money from a team that needs a starter. Considering that Nsekhe turns 34 in October, the Redskins shouldn’t get into a bidding way for him. But if they lose him, they will need to replace him.

If Nsekhe does leave, some might point to Chris Clark as a potential option. Clark has been a spot starter for three teams over the course of his career. Most recently, he played in Charlotte with the Carolina Panthers. In 2018, he made 13 starts for the team in place of injured tackles Daryl Williams and Matt Kalil.

While Clark has 66 starts in his career, it’s hard to recommend the Redskins signing him. He struggled at times last year, and he would be a downgrade from Nsekhe despite being the same age.

If the Redskins want a veteran, they’re better served to add a guy like Cameron Fleming or Bobby Hart. They’re both still young and could develop into quality backups. Clark’s potential is tapped. If the team signs a tackle in his 30s, they should only have eyes for Nsekhe.
