Safety: Glover Quin, Detroit Lions

Realistically, the Redskins could use any upgrade they can get their hands on at the safety position. So, any player that they sign would be a sensible option. However, Quin is one guy that would only be a short-term potential solution. And even then, he may be over-the-hill.

Quin was recently cut by the Lions after an underwhelming 2018 campaign. He was once considered to be one of the better safeties in the NFL, but he has declined in the past couple of seasons. Now 33, Quin’s best days are behind him and expecting a bounce-back wouldn’t be a great investment.

With Washington, Quin could challenge to be a starter, but by the time the team is competitive, his career may be over. Simply put, he has maybe a year or two left to be a starting-caliber player. And even that may be a stretch. If the team is going to invest resources into the safety position, they should target a younger player. Not one that will be off the team by the time they are ready to contend.

If the Redskins can get Quin really cheap, then bringing him on as depth could make sense. Still, it makes far more sense for Quin to go to a contender where he can plug a hole as a starter or serve as a third option. In Washington, he would merely be a stopgap option that wouldn’t do the team any good. So, the team should avoid Quin as a result of this.
