2019 NFL Draft Mock 3.0: What if the Redskins traded back?
By Ian Cummings
There’s no guarantee Devin White lasts this long in the NFL Draft. The Steelers could use a linebacker of his caliber, and with his size and speed combination, he could even fail to make it past the top ten.
There’s a heightened degree of ambiguity surrounding the evaluation of this year’s linebackers, and in this NFL Draft mock, White is the one who slips. While White’s camp wouldn’t be happy, the Philadelphia Eagles would be very willing beneficiaries; with Jordan Hicks set to hit free agency, the Eagles need a boost on the second level. White should provide that, with a little refining.
Like the other Devin in the 2019 NFL Draft, Devin White has impressive range for a linebacker, and can make plays from hash to hash. With 256 tackles in two full years as a starter at LSU, White has shown he can make an impact, and his activity at linebacker is something the Eagles would likely covet, if he falls to them.
There are some concerns with White, however. His coverage instincts are not up to par, and mentally, he has some progress to make before he’s ready to go toe-to-toe with NFL offenses. But he has gotten more consistent in that area, and with continued development, perhaps he can smooth out the remaining creases.
