2019 NFL Draft Mock 3.0: What if the Redskins traded back?
By Ian Cummings
The Browns are undergoing a rebirth of sorts just south of the Great Lake Erie. Years of drafting early have forged a solid talent base. Baker Mayfield is entrenched as one of the up and coming star quarterbacks in the league, and his dynamic offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens is now the team’s head coach.
That said, while things are looking up in Cleveland, there’s still work to be done. On defense, some talent can be added on all three levels, even though the unit as a whole is generally solid, and on offense, the edges of the line could use some shoring up.
With an investment like Mayfield now standing in the pocket, at the mercy of opposing defensive linemen, the Browns need to make sure not just anybody is out there at tackle. Desmond Harrison exceeded expectations as an undrafted rookie, but he and Chris Hubbard aren’t necessarily long-term solutions. The Browns need a long-term solution. And Jawaan Taylor could be what they’re looking for.
Standing at 6-foot-5, 330, Taylor has outstanding length and power, and he mends his physical traits together with acute mental awareness and three years of starting experience in college. Taylor would be an immediate starter on whatever side the Browns desire, and with any luck, he’ll protect Mayfield for years to come.
