28. player. 13. . Linebacker. Alabama. Mack Wilson

The Chargers employed a defense that used seven defensive backs against the Ravens in the playoffs. The strategy worked well, but there was also a reason that the team played that style of defense. They need some help at linebacker.

Denzel Perryman is a good starter when healthy, but he has struggled with injuries throughout his career and is set to be a free agent. Even if Perryman returns, the team could stand to add a well-rounded linebacker to help in coverage to continue adding young talent and depth to their oft-injured group.

Mack Wilson would qualify. Wilson has been very good in coverage at Alabama over the course of the past couple seasons, and that will make him a hot commodity. Coverage linebackers are all the rage in the NFL right now, as middle-of-the-field threats like top-caliber tight ends and even slot receivers are hard to guard. Wilson has the instincts needed to help against both types of threats depending on the scenario.

Wilson has a solid frame at 6-foot-2, 240 pounds and should be a solid tackler at the next level. He had a career-high 65 stops in his final year at Alabama which is good considering that his primary responsibilities were to cover when on the field. He would pair well with a downhill linebacker, as Wilson can work more laterally and in coverage to prevent big plays over the middle.

Adding a top-notch linebacker would strengthen an already good Chargers defense. Wilson is a sensible option here and could get consideration earlier. Devin Bush from Michigan would also garner consideration here.
