53. . Defensive Tackle. Mississippi State. Jeffery Simmons. 17. player

Simmons is a potential top-10 pick, but there is a chance that he could slip. He had some off-the-field issues in the past that teams are going to have to check out, but Simmons reportedly won’t be invited to the Combine as a result of these issues. Because of this, it will be hard for him to prove himself among the other potential early-round options.

The second issue for Simmons is the fact that this class is fairly stacked with defensive line prospects. It’s not quite the elite class that many foresaw before the season began — partially because Derrick Brown and Raekwon Davis went back to school — but there are still plenty of players that could leapfrog Simmons with strong draft season performances.

Simmons has been a more-than-solid college player for Mississippi State. He has been a tackling machine and in the past two seasons combined, he has logged 123 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, and seven sacks. He could stand to improve a bit as a pass rusher, but he has the athletic ability and frame needed to be a solid interior defender at the next level.

The Browns have done a great job of adding young talent to their roster since John Dorsey took over as GM, and they wouldn’t pass up a chance to add a guy like Simmons to their roster. This is especially true considering that one of the team’s biggest needs comes at the defensive tackle position next to Larry Ogunjobi. Simmons just seems like a great fit at this juncture, so the Browns won’t waste time snapping him up to kick off the second half of the first round.
