Washington Redskins 2018 season cornerback grades
By Ian Cummings
Fabian Moreau
Fabian Moreau grew in 2018. He’s not a finished product just yet, but the UCLA alumnus showed impressive poise at the line and flashed his potential with his combination of size and speed.
Moreau played in all sixteen games in 2018, giving Washington consistency in the slot, and on the outside, when Moreau shifted out to replace Quinton Dunbar late in the campaign.
It’s not yet conclusive whether Moreau better suits the slot or the outside in the NFL, but wherever he went, he proved himself to be a tenacious defender. Consistency was a concern at times, as Moreau allowed three touchdowns and a 105.8 passer rating over the course of the season, but for all the stats (per Pro Football Focus), he was only targeted 61 times on the year, or less than four times a game.
He didn’t produce as much as one would expect from a full-time starter (One interception, four pass deflections), and he had his youthful moments, but Moreau showed he can be a starter in the NFL, and with another year to learn, he can add production to his resume. It will be interesting to see what kind of effect a change in coaching at his position will have on the third-round pick’s development.
