47. . Cornerback. Patriots. Jason McCourty. 3. player

We’re going outside the box for this free agent option, both literally and figuratively.

The Redskins don’t necessarily have a pressing need at cornerback. Josh Norman’s decline could come swiftly, but for now, the veteran is still playing starter-caliber football. Quinton Dunbar has immense promise as a full-time starter, and Fabian Moreau underwent his own growth under Torrian Gray. Even seventh-round pick Greg Stroman flashed in his rookie season.

That said, there’s no guarantee Torrian Gray comes back. At one point, Gray was believed to be fired. Now, per ESPN’s John Keim, there’s a “chance” he comes back. With the situation lacking clarity, and with Washington in the market for cornerback depth, at the very least, New England’s Jason McCourty could be a solid get.

McCourty has been a consistent starter as a defensive back for a number of years, and although he turns 32 years old this offseason, he’s cost-effective enough, with his degree of versatility, experience, and the leadership he could provide Washington’s young defensive backs, that he would be a very valuable acquisition, especially if Torrian Gray leaves. Able to play outside and in the slot, he should be a key piece in New England’s contest against Kansas City later today.
