Brandon Scherff

It was supposed to be another year of national recognition for Brandon Scherff, who’d logged two Pro Bowl appearances in his first three seasons as a member of the Washington Redskins. Through eight games, Scherff was on pace for another stellar season, and numerous experts pegged him as an All-Pro candidate at right guard.

Scherff was lost for the season eight weeks too early, however, when he tore his pectoral in the team’s 38-14 loss against the Atlanta Falcons. He left the game early, in considerable pain, and the unfortunate news was confirmed the very next day.

The impact of Scherff’s loss was felt immediately after he exited the Atlanta game, and it lingered for the rest of the season. With Scherff on the field, Adrian Peterson broke 90 yards five times. Without Scherff, he did it only twice. It’s safe to say that the loss of Scherff was the Redskins most costly loss of the season, aside from Alex Smith.

Scherff still grades out well; he was a dominant force on the Redskins line, and should be regarded as such, in regards to 2018. The injury chips into his grade a bit, but when healthy, he was one of the best guards in the NFL. His status for the future, however, is in doubt. A pectoral tear is no small valley to climb up from. Scherff will have his work cut out for him, and if he recovers fully from his injury, that should only add to his extraordinary list of accomplishments.
