Defensive Tackle. Alabama. Quinnen Williams. 2. player. 42.

I think that Quinnen Williams well may be the best player in the draft, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he goes No. 1 overall in this class. Thus, I think that the 49ers will be more than happy to grab the Alabama product here to help shore up their defensive line.

The 49ers could stand to add some talent to their defensive tackle group. While DeForest Buckner is an excellent player, the team doesn’t have much next to him, as Earl Mitchell is merely a decent nose tackle while Sheldon Day is a solid rotational player. Williams would give the team a huge upgrade and could wreak havoc along with Buckner.

Williams possesses everything that teams are looking for in modern defensive tackles. He has an excellent first step that allows him to quickly shoot through gaps and make plays behind the line of scrimmage. His instincts also help him to quickly diagnose plays and make it easy for him to use his quickness to his advantage. That’s a large part of why he was able to notch eight sacks this year, a big number for an interior lineman.

Also, it’s notable that Williams has solid size at 6-foot-4, 289-pounds. He will have the opportunity to add more muscle to his frame in the NFL, if deemed necessary, and that will help turn him into a stronger, more well-rounded player. Either way, he has the skill set need to succeed in the NFL.

With Williams on the line, the 49ers would have a starting unit made up entirely of former first-round picks, at least for one season. That group of athletic, strong linemen could do a lot to create a disruptive pass rush, so it will certainly be interesting to see if that can become a big-time strength for the 49ers if they add Williams in the draft.
