The Browns have done a great job of rebuilding their roster under John Dorsey, and it seems likely that the team will continue to take the best football players they can find with their top selection. They could use another presence on the interior defensive line, but don’t discount the possibility of the team adding a cornerback, too.

Though the Browns selected Denzel Ward — who looks like a stud — last season at No. 4 overall, the team could stand to add another high-impact corner to be their No. 2 guy. Terrance Mitchell and T.J. Carrie both were solid last year, but E.J. Gaines never panned out after getting injured. Pairing Byron Murphy with Ward would create a dynamic corner duo that could be the next step in making the Browns a solid overall defense.

Our own Matt Valdovinos is high on Murphy and had him listed as the No. 5 option for the Redskins on his first round big board. Here’s what he said about the Washington corner.

"Murphy is a do-it-all cornerback with excellent body control and elite ball skills. I’m convinced this dude could catch anything. Murphy has average size, but incredible athleticism and body control. His ability to shadow a receiver anywhere on the field is elite."

When watching Murphy’s tape, it’s clear that he’s a great playmaker with excellent cover ability. He should fit in well in Cleveland and is a value pick that could fill a need. That makes it easy for the team to pull the trigger on him.
