The Panthers definitely need some help on their offensive line. Aside from Trai Turner and Daryl Williams (a free agent this season), they don’t have a lot of quality players on the unit. And in particular, their left tackle situation isn’t a good one.

Matt Kalil is currently the team’s starter at left tackle, but he has been bad when on the field in recent seasons. Even worse, he couldn’t stay healthy last year and ended up on IR. With Kalil’s future as a starter in question and the aforementioned Williams hitting free agency, the team may have to bring in some help at the tackle position.

Luckily for the Panthers, Jonah Williams is available in this scenario. Williams is one of the best offensive line prospects in this draft, and he could end up being a top-10 pick. In this mock, he slips out of circumstance and the fact that I have a slightly higher grade on Jawaan Taylor than Williams at the moment.

Williams is a seasoned veteran who saw a ton of action as a starter at Alabama. He should turn into a quality tackle at the NFL level — on either the left or ride side of the line — and he could also be asked to play guard if necessary. The Panthers would likely try to use him at left tackle while trying to retain Daryl Williams on the right side.

Ultimately, improving Cam Newton’s protection should be a major goal of the Panthers this offseason. And adding Williams is the easiest way to do that.
