The Falcons were banged-up badly this year, but it’s clear that they missed Dontari Poe in the middle of their defense. They need to add another quality interior defender to play next to Grady Jarrett, and Rashan Gary could be the guy.

Gary was a former No. 1 overall recruit in the ESPN 300 and spent three seasons at Michigan. There, the defensive lineman showed solid overall ability and athleticism, and he should be able to turn himself into a good pro as a scheme-versatile defensive lineman.

Joe Marino of The Draft Network said the following of Gary’s ability in a player profile done in early December.

"Rashan Gary offers an intriguing tool box and his ceiling is high should he develop. His power, short area quickness and heavy hands lay a solid foundation to work with. That said, his hand technique, processing skills and inconsistent motor must improve. His lack of flexibility limits his upside as an every down EDGE so moving him up and down the defensive front is wise to maximize his ability to make an impact. By year three, Gary has the upside to be a productive starter in a multi-front defense. His pass rushing upside is considerably high from interior."

Atlanta runs a 4-3 defense, so Gary would have the ability to play on the edge and then move inside for pass rushing situations. He’s the perfect candidate to do that. He’ll be able to set the edge on early-downs while wreaking havoc in the middle of the defensive along with Jarrett in obvious passing situations. The Falcons will feel lucky to grab Gary at this juncture, as it’s possible that he could go in the top 10 with a strong combine.

If Gary is off the board, the team will consider other defensive linemen, and if Christian Wilkins makes it this far, they won’t hesitate to add the Clemson talent to their defense.
