Clemson. Clelin Ferrell. 12. player. 49. . Edge Rusher

The Packers have some big needs that they need to fill during the 2019 offseason. They particularly need to get their defense some extra help. They could use help on the edge, on the defensive line, at safety, and maybe even at inside linebacker. With an offensive-minded head coach Matt LaFleur now in town, the team will probably target a defensive player early in hopes of developing the many receivers they took last season into solid contributors.

That said, the Packers will target the best player available on defense with that pick. In this case, that would be Clelin Ferrell.

Ferrell was part of Clemson’s monster defensive line that wreaked havoc on college football all of last season. He has racked up 20 sacks in the past two years and is easily one of the better edge players in this year’s class.

Ferrell has a nice combination of athletic ability, strength, and motor. When he’s on the field, he will be a threat to get to the quarterback, as his pass rushing moves are fairly solid as well. There have been some concerns that he wasn’t quite as fast and explosive as he was last year, but that won’t drop him very far. The production and raw skill set are still there for Ferrell.

With the Packers, Ferrell would immediately become their best edge rusher and would take some of the pressure off the aging Clay Matthews as his decline continues. With Ferrell and Kyler Fackrell — a player who demonstrated good pass rush ability last season with 10.5 sacks — the team’s pass rush would be in much better shape, and that should help out their young secondary.
