Incomplete Grades

The Redskins tight end group stayed relatively healthy for most of the season, so the players on their roster were mostly involved in game action. However, there were a couple of guys that were on the final roster but didn’t see enough action to warrant a grade.

The first is Matt Flanagan. The undrafted rookie was added to the active roster late in the year, and he received effusive praise from Chris Cooley about his upside and potential. However, Flanagan only saw action in three games, and he caught just one pass for 14 yards. He might have some long-term upside as a top backup, but he didn’t show enough to get a grade for this season.

Meanwhile, J.P. Holtz, a preseason standout, was only on the roster for the last game of the season. And even then, he didn’t play. So, he can’t be graded.

Still, for both of these players, it is notable that they stayed with the team for the whole season, whether it was on the practice squad or the 53-man roster. They should have a chance to battle for backup jobs in 2019, so keep an eye on them in the offseason.
