Washington Redskins 2018 season wide receiver grades
By Ian Cummings
Maurice Harris
After the Atlanta game, there was talk that Maurice Harris might emerge as the No. 1 receiver for the Redskins.
That didn’t age well.
Against the Falcons, the California product was a pass magnet, catching 10 of 12 targets for 124 yards. In a 38-14 blowout, Harris was a bright spot, and there was hope that the undrafted free agent would adopt a bigger role in the offense as the season went on.
Instead, that 10-reception performance in Week 9 proved to account for over one-third of his total receptions on the season.
Harris ended the 2018 campaign with 28 receptions for 304 yards, playing in twelve games, seven of which were starts. It’s easily his most productive campaign yet, but even so, consistency was a commodity Harris was unable to give, even when presented with the opportunity. Harris showed off his redeeming qualities; he has very good hands, and is a diligent route runner. But in his limited success also lies his shortcomings; he’s not fast, he can be injury prone, and he’s not a difference maker.
Harris was a hero in 2017 after his head-turning one-handed catch against the Vikings. But to hope for him to be a dark horse solution to the Redskins’ 2019 wide receiver issues is unrealistic, and now we know this for a fact.
