Round 6 – LB Kendall Joseph – Clemson

With the futures of both Mason Foster and Zach Brown up in the air this offseason, and with Reuben Foster possibly facing a suspension to start the 2019 season, the Redskins could use some depth at inside linebacker. They could address this position in almost any round. In this mock, the pick is Clemson linebacker Kendall Joseph, in Round 6.

Mentally, Joseph is adept. A three-year starter for the Tigers, Joseph reads the field well as the quarterback of the defense. Per Joe Marino’s breakdown of Joseph on The Draft Network, Joseph is has an innate feel for zones in pass coverage, and he’s not so easily fooled by the deception of play action. Some linebackers can overcommit to their keys, and leave the middle wide open. Joseph doesn’t make this a problem.

While Joseph lacks in size and athleticism, he has the mental prowess to be given a shot in the NFL. He could go anywhere on Day 3, as his traits bode well for him as a long-term backup, at the very least. In Washington, he would benefit from a dominant defensive line, just as he did with Clemson.
