Redskins vs. Giants, part two: 5 Keys to Victory in Week 14
By Kyle Hundley
No. 5 – Redskins must get a solid performance from special teams unit
With an offense that may struggle to points on the board this weekend, it is vital that the Redskins have a strong performance from the special teams unit.
Tress Way has been playing lights out all season, routinely pinning opponents back inside their own 20. Field position will be huge in this game. Way must have a big game flipping the field on the Giants when punting. Their coverage unit has been outstanding this season, and this game, they can’t let by any big returns. They must make Eli Manning put together some long drives and make him earn what he gets. The Giants will be without Odell Beckham, so the Redskins can’t help New York with short fields.
Dustin Hopkins must have a good game as well. Minus a 61-yard attempt with a bad groin, Hopkins has only missed a couple kicks this season. Considering some of the kicking issues other teams have had this year, Hopkins has been about as reliable as possible.
With a team that is likely going to struggle to score points, Hopkins must make every kick he attempts this game. He cannot leave any points on the field. In what should be a close game, even a missed PAT could be the difference.
