4. Reality Is, the Redskins’ running scheme is dependent on one player.

Without Brandon Scherff, the running game simply does not work. Outside of one play last week, the 90-yard Adrian Peterson touchdown run, the Redskins have managed bottom-of-the-league yards per carry ever since his injury, and Bill Callahan has not been able to adjust around that loss of Scherff.

If it weren’t for a few incredible cuts and runs by Peterson, the rush offense would have been discussed much more regularly. For whatever reason, this team just can’t manage to get consistent run-blocking execution from the tight ends and offensive line. Some creativity is in order at this point. In addition, the run game doesn’t set up the passing and play-action games well at all, so it’s really adding very little.

Prediction: The Redskins will attempt to run the ball against New York, but will quickly abandon that idea when the first 5-7 carries all leave the team in poor down and distances. Bill Callahan will be another casualty of the Gruden firing, even though it seems evident that Bruce Allen, not Jay Guden, hired him.
