Redskins Reality Checks: The future is looking murky

3. Reality Is, no team is built to survive losing their first two quarterbacks.

While it’s true that most NFL teams would absolutely tank if their top two quarterbacks were lost for the season, it’s also true that this team wasn’t playing well offensively under either of those first two QBs. Their six wins were primarily the result of the defense and special teams having flashes of brilliance early on in the season.

The Redskins, in some ways, have a convenient excuse for this season going sideways fast, but I find it hard to believe that their season wasn’t headed this direction anyway, given how poorly the offense had performed all year, and how poorly the defense has held up in recent weeks.

Prediction: Sanchez actually plays fairly well, but Gruden is forced to get creative, given the limitations of having a QB starting only 13 days after being signed. The inexperience and lack of reps come back to bit the Redskins as they commit upwards of five false starts and/or offensive holding penalties.

Sanchez’ line will be around 21-of-38 for 228 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, and 1 fumble.
