Redskins vs. Giants, part two: Five bold predictions for crucial game
By Ian Cummings
No. 1 – Defense rebounds, holds total score under 30 points
We’ve been waiting for the Redskins defense to rebound for weeks, since the Ha Ha Clinton-Dix trade, in fact. It’s an astounding truth: After the Clinton-Dix trade, expectations were sky high for this unit. And instead of meeting those expectations, the unit as a whole regressed exponentially.
Is all of that on Clinton-Dix? Not in the slightest. Teams learned to scheme around the Redskins’ stout interior defensive line, which has been worse than usual over the past few games. Mason Foster and Zach Brown are matchup nightmares for the home team, for numerous reasons, and in the secondary, issues at cornerback have taken their toll.
This week, however, against a mediocre quarterback and offensive line, with weeks of motivation in the tank, the Redskins defense will finally capitalize on opportunity, and build some momentum for themselves in the final weeks. They’ll keep the total score below 30 points, and they’ll give this team some life, even if it’s just a little. After the last three weeks, a little life is more than enough.
