Redskins defense vs. Giants offense

Let me present a scenario to you. Imagine Saquon Barkley, Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard, and Evan Engram lining up on offense, with Mason Foster standing between them and the end zone. How’s that sound?

Notgreatbob.gif.

Foster’s a stout run defender (when he picks the right gap, that is), but teams have exploited he and Zach Brown in previous weeks. It would help if Greg Manusky actually used his players to their strengths, and filtered in Shaun Dion Hamilton and Josh Harvey-Clemons on likely passing downs. But he’s proven he’s incapable of doing so as a defensive coordinator.

If the Redskins’ defense can align its strengths with New York’s, then there is no chance the defense, which has been lackluster for weeks on end, will be able to stave off an offensive attack with multiple star-caliber players.

Unless D.J. Swearinger and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix rebound, it doesn’t matter how deep the defensive line rotation is, or how underrated Ryan Kerrigan is. The unit has holes, and they haven’t shown any ability to compensate for them. If they still had consistent help from their offense, from a time of possession standpoint, things would be different. But that is no longer the case.
