Redskins Week 13 Reality Checks: Team faces tough, winnable game
By Tim Payne
No. 3 – Reality Is, Carson Wentz is rounding into form and the Redskins’ secondary is struggling.
Carson Wentz hasn’t been himself quite yet this season. Most players say it truly takes a full year to physically and mentally recover from an ACL surgery. Wentz is now about ten days short of a full year since his ACL surgery.
In the second half against New York last week, Wentz made a few clutch plays to bring Philadelphia back from a big deficit. If he continues to play like that this week, the Redskins are going to have difficulty containing him. It will be important for the Redskins to keep the pressure on him early and often to keep him uncomfortable.
After calling out his teammates after the loss in Dallas, D.J. Swearinger and the secondary will need to put together a strong game as well, to hold down the numerous weapons at Wentz’s disposal. The Eagles’ pass catchers may be their most consistent unit this season. This matchup will be a major key in this contest.
Prediction: The Redskins’ pass rushers will make a few key plays against Wentz, but will struggle to fully contain him. I am putting the over/under on magical Wentz escapes at three. If the Redskins keep him under that, they’ll win. I expect his line to end up being: 31 for 43, 305 yards, 2 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 5 carries for 33 yards, which means the results for the secondary will be mixed.
