3. Redskins record 50 or less total rushing yards

The return of Chris Thompson should help the Redskins offense. But their running game? That much isn’t as clear.

This season, Thompson has continued to be an electric playmaker, and he can tote the rock well and generate some splash plays — provided that he gets some good blocking. There are two things that may prevent him from being able to do that.

The first is the blocking. The interior of the line isn’t as strong as it has been in the past, as Jonathan Cooper and Tony Bergstrom are currently starting at the guard positions. They won’t be quite as strong as the Shawn Lauvao/Brandon Scherff duo, so that will make it more difficult for Thompson.

Secondly, Thompson has been dealing with a bad rib injury in recent weeks. The team won’t want him to aggravate that injury, so they will try their best to have him avoid hard contact. So, they may limit his carries and give him the ball on short passes in open space more.

That will leave Adrian Peterson to carry a bigger portion of the workload. A trio of issues has caused problems for the veteran in recent weeks including injuries to the offensive line, a pesky shoulder injury to himself, and the combination of his age and workload. He may struggle against a strong Philly defensive line that should see the return of Timmy Jernigan.

Overall, 50 rushing yards sounds about right for the Redskins. They are going to have to do their damage through the air in this contest. I predict that their typical rushing attack won’t be quite as strong as we’re used to seeing.
