No. 1 – S D.J. Swearinger

Another demoralizing loss, another statement by D.J. Swearinger calling out players for their lack of effort in practice.

It’s almost become a trend this season, and while it’s good to see Swearinger holding team mates accountable when necessary, it needs to translate on game days.

When the Redskins defense thrived earlier in the season, they made plays, and forced the issue by forcing turnovers. Sloppy football on the part of their opponents helped, but there was a time when Washington was known for being aggressive in pursuit of possession.

On Monday, in an important division matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Redskins will need that hungry mentality, and it comes from the man who eats with two spoons, D.J. Swearinger. Perhaps, in these dire times, he can instill new life into the defense.
