2. Cornerback

If there has been one clear weakness on the Redskins defense, it has been at corner. Quinton Dunbar has been very good when healthy, but he can’t stay on the field. Across from him, Josh Norman has been, at best, inconsistent. Norman is due a lot of money next offseason, so he could end up being a cap casualty after the season.

Elsewhere on the roster, the ‘Skins do have some young talent at corner. The trio of Fabian Moreau, Greg Stroman, and Danny Johnson has shown well at times, but Stroman and Johnson have been inconsistent when forced into starting duty. Because of this, the team may want to add a bona fide No. 1 or No. 2 cornerback to play across from Dunbar and keep the others in their respective roles (Moreau in the nickel, Stroman and Johnson as backups).

The Redskins could really go either way with what they choose to do at the corner position. They could target a veteran to provide a presence there like they did last year with Orlando Scandrick. Some options on the market include Rashaan Melvin, Morris Claiborne, and oft-injured stars like E.J. Gaines and Jason Verrett.

If the Redskins elect to target a corner in the draft, they could definitely consider doing that in the first couple of rounds. There are some solid corners available in this class that would have a chance to step in and help replace Norman right away. Greedy Williams, Trevon Diggs, and DeAndre Baker all have fared well in the SEC and could garner first-round consideration. Depending on whether or not Norman is on the team, that could be the most sensible move for the squad.

If the team can improve their coverage moving forward, their defense will be close to elite. Getting corner help and some better coverage at linebacker will be critical to that, so seeing them address those areas would be nice in the offseason.
