Redskins Saturday Spotlight: Requests from the readers

Looking to the Future
The 2019 NFL Draft will get most of the buzz when draft season comes back around, but it’s never too early to think even further ahead. The forward thinkers are the ones who succeed at the NFL level, and teams always need to have contingency plans.
Two players in particular were brought up in reader mentions that weren’t eligible for the 2019 NFL Draft, but make for tantalizing prospects in the years to follow. Jeff Guido Gueli, to my delight, brought up Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore. Moore is a talented, explosive, and versatile threat, and although he’s a bit undersized at 5-foot-9, 175, he has game-changing speed that can be used all over the place. Bookmark him as a potential steal in the 2021 NFL Draft, as his weight could push him down the board.
Another future prospect brought up (this one by @DcGridlock) will likely be a bit more recognizable to even the most casual college football fans. Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa made national headlines when, as a true freshman coming in for Jalen Hurts, his late touchdown pass carried the Crimson Tide to a national title last season. Many thought he was overhyped heading into the season, due to this one moment, but he’s since proved everyone wrong, and gotten a head start on the race for the top quarterback spot in 2020.
So far this season, Tagovailoa, through eight games, has completed 107 of 152 passes for 2,066 yards, 25 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Yes, zero interceptions. Tagovailoa’s arm talent is undeniable; the left-hander is lighting up the league week in and week out. The hype train shouldn’t chug along too far just yet, but so far, Tagovailoa has checked plenty of boxes, combining raw talent with a gunslinger mentality, while also limiting mistakes. If Alex Smith fails to improve in a year, then perhaps the Redskins should rely on their Alabama pipeline once more, this time to invest at the most important position in football.
