Redskins Saturday Spotlight: Requests from the readers

The Alabama Pipeline
I think we all knew this was coming.
It’s no secret that the Washington Redskins have seemingly favored Alabama players in recent drafts. They selected Jonathan Allen and Ryan Anderson in 2017, then Daron Payne and Shaun Dion Hamilton in 2018. Add Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, a former Tide standout, to the mix, and the Redskins have five defenders from the University of Alabama.
It’s a formula that’s worked so far. Why not keep it going?
Washington Commanders
As usual, Alabama has an immense reservoir of draft talent in 2019, led by DT Quinnen Williams, who’s been perhaps the biggest riser in all of college football. The Redskins wouldn’t select him (or would they?), but it’s fun to think about, isn’t it? Thanks to MHite for this suggestion.
Alabama also has talent on the second level. Mack Wilson, recommended via @BloodGangJWall, is an athletic specimen with the length and speed to make an impact, and potentially learn from and succeed Mason Foster, who isn’t getting any younger at linebacker. Anfernee Jennings stands out as a physical edge rusher with promise, and he could be had for better value.
Moving to the offensive side of the ball, @craigweber33 listed offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher and running back Damien Harris as potential adds. Pierschbacher would bring depth and strength on the offensive line, at an area that needs depth, and Harris, with his vision, would be a solid add to the Redskins’ running back room, although it wouldn’t necessarily be a good value move. Washington has plenty of depth at running back next year with Derrius Guice coming back, and they’ve proved that they can get enough depth out of lesser assets, such as Kapri Bibbs.
One last Alabama player: Tight end Irv Smith, mentioned by MHite, has been impressive so far this season, showing potential as both a blocker and a receiver. The Redskins appear to be set at tight end, but with Vernon Davis’ age and Jordan Reed’s injury history, things could change in an instant.
