No. 1 – Redskins must shut down Saquon Barkley

Much was made of the Giants decision to select Saquon Barkley second overall in the draft instead of taking one of the franchise quarterbacks available. The hype was there. Can he be as good as advertised?

Well, through the first seven games of the year, Barkley has been even better than many thought he was going to be when he was drafted, which is saying something. Currently, Barkley sits fourth in the league in yards with 481. The Atlanta Falcons played him tough in the run game Monday night, limiting him to just 43 yards on 14 carries. The Redskins must do the same this week.

The Redskins ability to stop the run on defense has been arguably the team’s biggest strength through their first six games. After finishing dead last a season ago, they are second in the league this year, having surrendered just 524 yards in six games.
