Kelechi Osemele. 2. player. 28. . Guard/Tackle. Raiders

It’s no secret that the Redskins could use some help at left guard. While their team’s offensive line has slightly improved since some of their worse performances early in the season, they could still stand to find an upgrade to strengthen and solidify the unit.

Kelechi Osemele would qualify. Osemele has experience playing left tackle and guard, and he has been one of the best guards in the league for the past couple of seasons. Sure, he’s missed time with a knee injury this year, but dealing a pick for him wouldn’t be the worst move. Because when healthy, he would be a big-time upgrade for the team’s offensive line.

If the Redskins traded for Osemele, he would immediately slot into the left guard spot in their lineup. That would push Shawn Lauvao back to the bench and ensure that Chase Roullier would be able to stay at center — the position that he’s best suited for. Osemele would be a big upgrade regardless and would also provide some versatility.

Osemele can play left tackle in a pinch, as he proved during his time with the Ravens. He’s a better player at guard, but he was certainly an above-average starter on the outside. Just having him around would provide solid insurance in case Trent Williams and Morgan Moses got banged up.

The only glitch with acquiring Osemele is that he’s making a boatload of money in the next two seasons. He still has close to $21 million left on his contract, so that would be a tough pill to swallow for the ‘Skins. That said, they could elect to cut him after the year with no dead cap or attempt to restructure the deal if Osemele wanted to stay. Provided that they don’t give up too much draft capital, that could be a solid move.

Considering that the Gruden brothers already have a strong relationship, getting Osemele for a mid-round pick could be possible. A fourth- or fifth-round pick would be worth it for the team, as it would certainly fix one of the weaker spots on their roster and could be a boon for their run game.
